How to search and claim an LLC name in Oklahoma
- Search Oklahoma's official entity records (free; full entity details cost $5), leaving “LLC” off the name.
- Make sure the name ends with one of Oklahoma's accepted endings, such as “Limited Liability Company” or “Limited Company”.
- Hold the name with a $10 reservation for 60 days if you need time before filing.
- File the Articles of Organization with the Oklahoma Secretary of State for $100.
- Note the recurring report so the LLC stays in good standing: $25 annual certificate each year (due on the filing anniversary).
What an Oklahoma LLC name must include
Oklahoma accepts these endings for a limited liability company:
- Limited Liability Company
- Limited Company
- LLC
- L.L.C.
- LC
- L.C.
Oklahoma's rules don't include a general list of banned words for LLC names. Professional LLCs are the special case: they add “Professional” or an abbreviation like P.L.L.C. or PLLC to the ending (18 O.S. § 807), and each owner or manager needs a licensing-board certificate attached (§ 804). In the ordinary endings, “Ltd.” may stand for “limited” and “Co.” for “company”.
How Oklahoma decides two names are the same
Oklahoma spells out what doesn't make a name different. Endings such as LLC, L.C., Inc. or Limited don't count. Neither does a place word like OK, Oklahoma, Okie, USA or OKC, a number from 1 to 10, “a”, “an” or “the”, filler words like “Service”, “Services”, “Or” and “Of”, punctuation or spacing, or a spelling that sounds the same, so Dogg and Dawg both clash with Dog (OAC 655:20-1-6). The comparison covers LLCs, corporations, partnerships and registered series that are in good standing or were within the last three years, plus trade, fictitious and reserved names (18 O.S. § 2008(C)); the holder's written consent or a court decree can clear a conflict.
Where the rules are written. 18 O.S. § 2008 (LLC names); § 2009 (reservation); § 1006 (corporation names); §§ 1140-1141 (trade names; indistinguishable names); OAC 655:20-1-6 (name availability rule).
Searching for an LLC name in Oklahoma
The Secretary of State's name availability search is free and shows the basics of matching entities; their full details cost $5 to view. Companies inactive for up to three years still count against a new name.

Leave the ending off when you search, so every version of the name shows up, then compare each result word by word. If one matches apart from spacing, punctuation or a plural, change a real word in your name.

Forming the LLC in Oklahoma
Articles of Organization cost $100 (18 O.S. § 2055). Filing in person for same-day service adds $25 per document, and paying by card adds a 4% service charge.
File the Articles of Organization online
The annual certificate, $25, is due every year on the anniversary of the LLC's articles (18 O.S. § 2055.2). Oklahoma emails the reminder only to the address on record, and 60 days after a missed due date the LLC is no longer in good standing. LLCs are exempt from franchise tax, according to the Oklahoma Tax Commission, and no newspaper notice is required. A Certificate of Good Standing is $20, ordered online with the entity's filing number.
When the LLC trades under another name
To trade under another name, an Oklahoma LLC reports the trade name to the Secretary of State ($25, 18 O.S. § 1140). The trade name itself has to be distinguishable from the names already on the Secretary of State's records.
