How to search and claim an LLC name in Idaho
- Search Idaho's official entity records at no cost, leaving “LLC” off the name.
- Make sure the name ends with one of Idaho's accepted endings, such as “Limited Liability Company” or “Limited Company”.
- Hold the name with a $20 online ($40 by mail) reservation for 4 months if you need time before filing.
- File the Certificate of Organization with the Idaho Secretary of State for $100 online ($120 by mail).
What an Idaho LLC name must include
Idaho accepts these endings for a limited liability company:
- Limited Liability Company
- Limited Company
- L.L.C.
- LLC
- L.C.
- LC
The statute that governs names, Idaho Code § 30-21-302, lets a professional LLC add “professional” or “P” to its ending, and within the endings “Ltd.” may stand in for “Limited” and “Co.” for “Company”. No restricted-word list could be confirmed on an official Idaho page.
How Idaho decides two names are the same
When the Secretary of State checks an LLC name, the ending drops out: “LLC”, “L.L.C.” and “limited liability company” don't count (Idaho Code § 30-21-302). Its FAQ gives the example of an assumed name “XYZ”, which needs the consent of an existing “XYZ, LLC”. Whatever remains must be distinguishable from the names of existing entities on the state's records. That means “Blue Fox LLC” and “Blue Fox Limited Liability Company” are the same name to Idaho, and changing the ending won't get a taken name through.
Where the rules are written. Idaho Code § 30-21-302 (Idaho Uniform Business Organizations Code, permitted names); Title 30, Chapter 25 (LLCs).

Leave the ending off when you search, so every version of the name shows up, then compare each result word by word. If one matches apart from spacing, punctuation or a plural, change a real word in your name.
Live from Idaho's records. Pick Idaho in the LLC name check and it runs your words through the Idaho Secretary of State's Business Search when you submit, then lists the registered names that share them, longer ones that open with them, and those starting with the same two words.
