How to search and claim an LLC name in Alaska

  1. Search Alaska's official entity records at no cost, leaving “LLC” off the name.
  2. Make sure the name ends with one of Alaska's accepted endings, such as “Limited Liability Company” or “L.L.C.”
  3. Hold the name with a $25 reservation for 120 days if you need time before filing.
  4. File the Articles of Organization with the Alaska Division of Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing for $250.
  5. Note the recurring report so the LLC stays in good standing: $100 every two years.

What an Alaska LLC name must include

Alaska accepts these endings for a limited liability company:

  • Limited Liability Company
  • L.L.C.
  • LLC

Keep municipal words out: an Alaska LLC can't use “city”, “borough” or “village” in a way that suggests it's a local government, although an actual place name is fine (AS 10.50.020(b)). The phrase “limited liability company” is reserved for companies formed or registered under the LLC Act (AS 10.50.020(c)). Inside the ending, “Ltd.” can replace “limited” and “Co.” can replace “company”.

How Alaska decides two names are the same

The Division turns a name away unless it is distinguishable on its records, both from the names of organized entities and from names someone has reserved or registered (AS 10.50.025, with the details in 3 AAC 16.120).

Where the rules are written. AS 10.50.020-.043 (LLC names, reservation); AS 10.06.105 (corporations); 3 AAC 16.120.

Searching for an LLC name in Alaska

Searching costs nothing. The Division's tool finds an LLC by name or entity number, or through the officials and registered agent listed on it, and the complete entity list can be downloaded as free CSV files if you'd rather search it yourself.

Open the official Alaska entity search

Leave the ending off when you search, so every version of the name shows up, then compare each result word by word. If one matches apart from spacing, punctuation or a plural, change a real word in your name.

Checked against 103,337 Alaska names. When Alaska is selected, the LLC name check also looks your name up in our copy of “Corporations database download”, published by the Alaska Division of Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing and last updated October 7, 2026. Matches come back in three lists: the same words, longer names that open with yours, and names starting with the same two words. Each shows the entity's type, status and number. The state's own search is still the final word, since its records move ahead of our copy.

Forming the LLC in Alaska

The Division lists $250 for an LLC's Articles of Organization. That appears to bundle a $150 articles fee with the first $100 biennial fee, a split we couldn't confirm, so plan on $250 at filing. Paying online needs a myAlaska account, and the LLC must also hold an Alaska business license.

File the Articles of Organization online

This filing fee isn't on a current official fee page that we could find, so ask the Alaska Division of Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing to confirm it.

Alaska LLCs report every two years rather than every year: $100 for a domestic LLC, due before January 2 of the reporting year, with even or odd years matching the year the LLC was formed and a late penalty after February 1 (AS 10.50.760). There's no franchise tax for LLCs and no newspaper notice to publish. A Certificate of Compliance, Alaska's proof of good standing, is listed at $10 online.

When the LLC trades under another name

To trade under a second name, an Alaska LLC can file a business name registration with the Division for $25 (AS 10.35). The LLC needs its Alaska business license first, and the registered name can't include a corporate ending. The registration is optional, but it gives exclusive rights to the name.

A few were read from search results, not the page itself, because the site refused direct requests; treat the facts they back as provisional until the Alaska Division of Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing confirms them.
